🍫 Monster Bark

Ingredients

Instructions

Prep the pan:

  1. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment or a silicone mat.

Melt the chocolates:

  1. Microwave or double-boil the dark chocolate until smooth.
  2. Spread it evenly into a rectangle (about 9x12 inches).
  3. Quickly melt the white chocolate; drop spoonfuls on top and swirl gently with a knife or skewer to create a marbled pattern.

Decorate:

  1. While still soft, sprinkle on pretzels, candy corn, M&M’s, sprinkles, and candy eyes. Press lightly so they stick.

Set:

  1. Chill for 20–30 minutes until firm, then break into shards.

Package:

  1. Place 2–3 shards in each clear bag with orange or black ribbon.
  2. (Tip: store in a cool, dry place — keeps for 1 week.)
  1. Here are several cornstarch-free alternatives — both ready-made and DIY — that still give the fun “monster eye” look for your bark:
  2. 🟢 1. Mini Chocolate Chips (Simple & Effective)
  3. Press upside-down mini chocolate chips (flat side up) into the bark while it’s soft.
  4. Add a small white dot of melted white chocolate (use a toothpick) for the “eye” reflection.
  5. ✅ 100% cornstarch-free
  6. ✅ Melts slightly into the surface — stable in packaging
  7. ⚪ 2. White Chocolate “Eyeballs” (DIY Version)
  8. Ingredients:
  9. White chocolate or candy melts (for whites)
  10. Dark chocolate chips (for pupils)
  11. Method:
  12. Pipe small dots of melted white chocolate onto parchment.
  13. While still soft, place a mini chocolate chip in the center (point down).
  14. Let set at room temperature or in fridge.
  15. → These look identical to store-bought candy eyes but have zero cornstarch.
  16. 🧁 3. Yogurt Chips or White Baking Chips + Chocolate Dot
  17. Use yogurt chips (often cornstarch-free, but check label).
  18. Melt a bit of dark chocolate, use a toothpick to add a tiny center dot.
  19. 🧃 4. Natural Option: Sliced Mini Marshmallows
  20. Cut mini marshmallows in half; press a chocolate chip into the sticky side.
  21. Soft and fun for a “cartoonish” look — especially cute for kid-friendly batches.
  22. 🧪 Optional Tip for Durability
  23. If you’re gifting or need them to keep a few days:
  24. Brush the finished eyeballs (DIY versions) with a tiny bit of cocoa butter or neutral oil — helps resist humidity and prevent blooming.
