BBQ Beef or Pork Sandwiches (Sloppy Joes)

Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup margarine (substitute butter)
  • 1 cup onions (substitute celery, garlic, asopheida, and chives)
  • 1 cup 1 lb 13 oz can of Contadina Tomato Puree
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (firmly packed)
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp prepared mustard
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 20 slices of cooked beef or pork (ground beef for sloppy joes)
  • 10 Hamburger buns or onion rolls
Instructions
  1. Melt margarine in saucepan. Add chopped onions and saute until tender. Add tomato puree, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, mustard and salt. Mix well. Simmer over moderate heat 30 - 40 minutes. Add cooked beef or ham slices. Heat thoroughly 10 - 15 minutes. Meanwhile cut 10 buns in half; toast and butter lightly. Serve barbequed beef or pork on buns, either open-faced or as a closed sandwich.
