From my Mother's recipe collection, from my Grandmother
This is transcribed verbatim, and it appears my mother got it from my grandmother, and she in turn got it from a M. Leone "79" recipe ... I would say english wasn't her first language.
Melt marj. (butter) & heat milk with it. Dissolve yeasts in warm not hot water.
Now
In lg. bowel (sic) beat eggs, add sugar, -beat- add anise flavor, mix - add marj (butter) & milk mixture, mix - add raisons, mix - add flour & mix till dough is nice and smooth, when this is mixed good, than (sic) rub all around it with room temp. marj. (butter) & put in a lg. pan. Coover (sic) good & put in warm place, till it more than doubles in size than (sic) punch down & make into loaves & put into grease pans, & let rise again until more than double in size.
Bake at 300 degrees for 40-45 mins. Makes about 4-5 small loaves.
