Irish Apple Cake with Custard Sauce

Cake
  • 250 g flour (2 cups)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 115 g butter (cubed)
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon (optional)
  • 100 g sugar
  • 3 large apples, peeled and chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 120 ml milk (1/2 cup)
  • Optional Custard
  • 250 ml milk (1 cup)
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a cake tin.
  2. Mix flour, baking powder, and cinnamon. Rub in the butter until it forms crumbs.
  3. Stir in sugar and apples.
  4. Whisk egg and milk, then mix into the batter.
  5. Bake for 45 minutes until golden.
  6. Optional Custard
  7. Heat milk, then whisk with sugar and yolks until thickened.
