Kentucky Butter Cake

Description

A recipe originally made by my grandmother, and was sought after by my mother for a number of years.  FINALLY Gram relented and shared the recipe with her...  I'll share this (no need to beg).

Ingredients

Cake

Sauce

Instructions

Cake

  1. Sift together the flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda. To the cup of butter gradually add the sugar, creaming well. Blend in the unbeaten eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Combine the milk and vanilla and add alternately with the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Blend well after each addition. (With electric mixer use low speed). Turn into a 10-inch tube pan, greased on the bottom only.

  2. Bake at 325 degrees F. for 60 to 65 minutes until the cake springs back when touched in center. Run spatula along edge and stem of pan. Prick cake with fork. Pour hot sauce over cake. Cool slightly before removing from pan and place on rack to cool completely. Just before serving, sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Sauce

  1. Combine the water, sugar and butter in a saucepan. Heat only until the butter is melted - do not boil. Add 1 Tablespoon vanilla or rum flavor.
