Postal Cole Slaw

Description

Recipe from Peggy, this hand-written postcard is a bit hard to read for me.

Ingredients
  • 1 head of cabbage, grated
  • 1 large onion, grated (substitute celery, chives, asophoedita)
  • 1 cup vinegar (Type not specified - going with Cider)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp celery seed
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2/3 cup salad oil
  • 1 tsp dry mustard
Instructions
  1. Layer cabbage on bottom, bell pepper in the middle, onion on top.  Sprinkle with sugar.

  2. In saucepan - vinegar, oil, celery (seed), salt or seed, dry mustard - boil.  Pour hot dressing over cabbage.

  3. Weigh down with heavy plate & refrigerate over night.  Mix before serving.

    Will keep for a week - great for picnics - no mayo.
