Red Cabbage with Fruit

Peal, core, and dice the apple and pear. Wash the prunes and raisins in hot water. Remove the prune pits; cut the prunes into pieces. Melt the shortening in a large skillet. Add the cabbage; cook with the cover on for 10 minutes. Add the fruit and salt. Mix through once; cover and cook for 4 to 5 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender. Add a little water if the cabbage becomes dry. Serves 4.
Two tablespoons of sour cream may be added just before serving.
